Doch bevor die Melodie der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt werden konnte, verschwand sie spurlos. Von Hohenberg selbst verstarb unter mysteriösen Umständen, und die Notenblätter schienen mit ihm in das Grab genommen zu sein.
Jahrhunderte später fand der junge Musikwissenschaftler Jonas, ein großartiger Bewunderer von Hohenbergs Werken, beim Durchstöbern der Archive eine verblichene Notenskizze. Inspiriert von den Geschichten, die er als Kind hörte, beschloss er, das Rätsel um die verlorene Melodie zu lösen.
Eine Spur führte ihn zum ehemaligen Anwesen von Hohenbergs, das mittlerweile eine alte Bibliothek beheimatete, vollgestopft mit vergilbten Partituren und Büchern. Mit Hilfe von Annika, einer talentierten Violinistin und Tochter des Bibliothekars, begann Jonas, die Kodizes und Hinweise in den Büchern zu entziffern, die Hinweise auf den Verbleib der Melodie geben könnten.
Abende und Nächte verbrachten die beiden zwischen den Regalen, um die Verschlüsselungen und Rätsel zu lösen. Dabei kamen sie sich näher und entdeckten nicht nur ihre Liebe zur Musik neu, sondern auch zueinander.
Nach vielen Wochen intensiver Forschung fanden sie endlich einen verborgenen Raum hinter einer alten, knarrenden Buchwand. Drinnen entdeckten sie ein geheimes Fach im Schreibtisch von Hohenberg, und darin lagen – fast verwest, aber noch lesbar – die Originalnoten der verschollenen Melodie.
Voller Ehrfurcht spielte Annika die ersten Töne auf ihrer Violine. Die Melodie, lebendig und rein, erfüllte den Raum und bestätigte alle Legenden mit ihrer Schönheit.
